Eric Shih Proposal

People all over the world attend parties, go out to clubs, and other social gatherings. More than likely people dress up in order to look nice and impress others. Everyone tries their best to look their best through the night. However, sometimes the night can get rowdy. In which, at the end of the night, people no longer look as pristine and presentable as when they first went out.

For this assignment I would like to construct portraits imitating the post party appearance. Normally people like to be photographed when they are at their best, and sessions set up so the subject is presented in an aesthetically pleasing manor. I would like to capture the opposite. I would like to capture people when they aren’t in that pristine state.

I will be taking head on portraits to expose all the facial features and details of the subjects getup. In addition I will be taking pictures of the subjects going about the night in which the scenes will be planned out and set up, so it will not be 100% natural/spontanious

Mike O'Halloran Proposal

I would like to photograph urban landscapes with people in them. I'd like to make the photographs stark, high-contrast, and black and white. It will be a mixture of the place and the people/figures as the subject. I think some could be closer to portraits of people, while others will be in the same style more about the figures they create amongst the background of wherever they are. Additionally I may try and play with open shutter to see what effects of movement I can get in the environment.

I would like to do this because I enjoy black and white images, and I doubly enjoy them when they are super high contrast and look as if they have more meaning, or a meaning that viewers feel can be interpreted more after looking at the image for a longer duration of time.

I will most likely work by bringing my tripod and posting up on a sidewalk corner/areas of public transport to make these images.

I would like to do a body language series by having models pose a certain way to express various feelings. I think this is a good topic because I would really like to get the viewer to feel whatever emotion is depicted in the picture. I really feel like I should practice more with photographing humans as opposed to still life and nature.
I’m going to do both intentional poses and photograph people when I notice a strong sense of body language, I plan to create a series of photos using both techniques and choosing the one that better gets my point across.  I also want to photograph in black and white so that the body language creates the mood of the image and the color doesn't create any misunderstanding.

Caroline O'Brien Proposal

I grew up in a small town in Ohio, developed on top of the Cuyahoga Indian Reservation. Because it was a preserved land, many national parks preserved in various locations around the town and surrounding towns. Some of my absolute favorite memories were made in these parks, on their trails. I would everyday go running in Furnace Run, around 4/5 o’clock. And when people would causally say think of your happy place, I’d think back to this specific stretch in Furnace Run, where the river winded through the trail and the yellow whispies would appear to glow I the setting sun. Every holiday, my family and I would walk a trail. Sometimes it would be one we hadn’t tried before, other times we would return to the same trail that was a classic for us.

For my assignment, I’d like to capture moments of these memories. Family and friends, out in nature on trails and parks. The focus will be on the trails and parks themselves and also the people, as a combination of my loves.

Final Project Proposal

I would like to photograph a group of images of a specific person for the following of the days left and as my final project.

I know it may seem to be boring at first sight when someone choose to photograph a single one person due to the lack of diversity. However, the reason why I choose this is because I want to challenge myself by expressing this person's different moods and emotions  by making images of her wearing different costumes, doing different things and being at different locations. Another reason is because she is graduating next semester and she herself has a special feeling toward the country where she spent  four years. I want to catch her attachment for this land.

I would take her to different places in and out of town. Some places are common spots on campus where she is mostly familiar with and intimate with. Some are places with beautiful scenes like Shingle town gap and Whipple dam. We will also set to Florida this Thanksgiving day together so the project definitely can have various background. I would also like to use different lights and shadow to convey her happiness, sorrow, anger and other emotions. I will try to show her personality through the project.

Final Project Proposal

For my final project, I'll make a collection of photographs consisting of interesting landscape images.

One of my biggest interests in photography are landscape images. I'd like to be able to make successful landscape images with this project. These images will be made by my interest in going through trails and parks. There are a few trails around my house, and plenty around state college. So going through these trails, I will try to experiment with the sights of the woods, and the nature around these trails.

Final Photo Project Proposal

I would like to photograph landscapes at night.  I want to make images of landscapes with a beautiful night sky in the background.  I would like to do this at many different locations and different times of the night.  I would like some images to have interesting things in the foreground and others to consist simply of a landscape with stars in the background.

I want to do this because I like photographing at night, and I think that I could potentially make some beautiful images.  I have seen photographs like the ones I am thinking of trying to make, and they are unique in that they are at night, and the starry backgrounds make them much more beautiful than anything that could possibly be recorded during the day.

I plan to make these photographs by setting my camera up on a tripod, and making long exposures up to 20 minutes, while illuminating certain subjects using a daylight-temperature LED flashlight.  My camera’s images get noisy fast with increasing ISO sensitivity, so I will try to use ISO 400 and lower.  With this sensitivity and a relatively small aperture, I may need exposures as long as 20 minutes, and the stars will trail quite a bit, but I think this could have a pleasing look in many situations.  When the only thing my photos consist of is stars and distant trees, I will be able to use larger apertures without having subjects out of focus.

Proposal

What you would like to photograph?

For this assignment I would like to photograph human body part by making photographs of nude body parts of my subjects.

Why you would like to photograph your subject?

After studying Aaron Siskind work based on abstract photography, I grew an interest on creating images that explore layers of perspectives and capture multidimensional focal points. By making images of human body part, I hope my audience can explore the extraordinary beauty of unique perspectives and hopefully understand the transformation that can take place in everyday objects to become unrecognizable or transition into other visuals.

How are you going to work?

To accomplish my goal for this assignment, I hope to encourage family members to participate as my subjects. I believe family members would feel more comfortable to participate in this type of assignment, because of the relationship we have

Proposal
I want to have flower and people as the subject of a multi week portfolio of images.
I would like to photograph people with flowers.
The reason is I love flowers so much. Flower can express the beauty and hope in people’s life. I would like to find the relationship between people and flowers. I would like to find how flower change people’s life better.
I will talk about flowers with the people who I would like to photograph and try to make it as natural as possible. I also will explore the best spacing using in a size of photography to see how people and flowers works together. I will make the light as the important part in my photographs. Definitely, I won’t make photographs black and white.

I would like to photograph landscapes and nature.  In this body of work I would like to look at things from afar and up close, along with working at night to further the intensity of the work.  I would like to allow a viewer to easily read and have an emotional reaction to my images.  To do this, I will implore flash and long exposure techniques to create images that are interesting.   I feel this work is important to make, for me, in order to push my own photography further and learn to really speak through my images.  At this time in my life, I have found a new love for the outdoors and would like to document the wonder and insecurity I feel in the woods.

I would like to make night photos of urban landscapes but at slow shutter speeds to leave light trails and also play with the light available in the night scene. I also would create other pictures of light movement at slow shutter speeds to play with like using flash lights to write out messages and pictures. I also would like to try some photos that include me to take advantage of the slow shutter speeds for this photo set with some photo manipulations. I feel like the photograph with these types of aesthetics will work because I believe that the photos can create abstract scenes using light to make visually appealing photos. The same can be said with other night photos leaving the same abstract feeling but with lines and other designs across the scene.  For me these types of photos are neat and seem to capture some form of energy that I will try to capture a well. I would like to work in such a manner that I will photograph mostly night shots and also have light moving in some sort of way either car lights or with a flashlight. I will also be using strobe lights and other lighting effect to make sure that it works with the photo. I will be using a tripod for the photos because the photos I make will involve long shutter speeds and I need to keep the camera still. I will also process the photos in order to do the changes that I need to make the aesthetics work cohesively.

Ziqi's Proposal

I would like to photograph familiar city views and make them special. I want to show people the beauty of buildings by photographing their edges in different light conditions. I will explore the relationship between the buildings and light, and more different the same building can be with different light. In order to do this, I am planning to photograph the same building scene in different time. I will be looking for the interesting shadows. I will decide whether to make them black-and-white or keep them colorful dependently.

Nyomi's Proposal

Nyomi’s Proposal

I want to photograph people, who I do not necessarily know in dramatic lighting. I want to highlight bone structures with deep shadows and pull out facial details like freckles, dimples and wrinkles. I like photographing people and manipulating images to make them more dramatic, so they emit a different persona than seeing the real person does. I plan to photograph these people against solid or un-busy backgrounds, probably outside so I have enough light, or near a window. I want the focus to be the person’s face and texture of their skin and hair, and have a sort of hollow emotional quality. I want expressionless faces and empty eyes in most likely black and white.

final assignment proposal - Ammar

Tree branches have many great unique and special shapes, and there is something about them that draws me to having them as my subject matter for the final assignment. When we were surfing photography books for one of the assignments, I surfed a book that was fully dedicated to photographing branches, especially the very top part of the trees, and I found that interesting. I couldn’t photograph that for the assignment because the trees still had leafs on them at that time of the year, and because I really wanted to photograph the branches with my own style. That’s why I want to do that for the final assignment which I think will help me to appreciate the very small details about the branches and their mysterious shapes, and to have a stronger connection with nature and its creator. I will try photographing branches in different times of the day and with different angles and perspectives.

Final Project Proposal

I would like to photograph people’s personal spaces (bedrooms, bathrooms, etc.) without them in them. I think, in photographing this, it will allow me to show the impact people have on their environments as well as the impact of people not being around. I plan to ask the people to leave their rooms exactly as they would usually have them on any given day when I photograph in order to capture a more genuine moment as opposed to perfectly clean rooms. I believe that this project will be able to show the personalities of my subjects without them actually being there as well as getting some of their stories.
